Distal edge determination precision for a multi-slat prompt-gamma camera: A comprehensive simulation and optimization of the detection system

Multi-slat prompt-gamma camera is a promising tool for range monitoring during proton therapy. We report the results of comprehensive simulation study analyzing precision which possible to reach with this in determination position distal edge Bragg peak. For first time we include optical photons. The beam (single pencil beam, 130 MeV, 10 ns bunch period, total 1·108 protons) interacting polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) phantom, cylinder 200 mm diameter and length. prompt gamma rays generated phantom are collimated multi-slat collimator detected using combination yttrium aluminum perovskite (YAP) scintillators, installed apertures, light sensors. Two scintillator packing schemes, one two plates per aperture, considered. configuration (the septal thickness, aperture height), resulting best precision, determined methods detector optimization. Precision 2.1 (full width at half maximum) demonstrated.
